Hooray! Here we are with another page of The Hall Monitors! This page is important because I'm introducing a new character. DM-400 is a drum machine that... talks, I guess? I think Brian Ferreira (the trombone player in my band) gave me the initial idea for that, so thanks Brian! Anyway, he is going to serve as the drummer for the band for now. It should be interesting to see where this goes.
This reminds me of high school, when my old ska band used to play with this other band called The Carnivorous Vegans. Not only did they have a solid band name (sarcasm), they also had a solid drummer who also happened to be a drum machine. It was pretty much just two kids playing terribly fast ska/punk to a drum machine. Which actually wasn't all that bad, now that I think about it. Musically, they always stayed in time (something my band couldn't seem to get the hang of at the time).
I mentioned on Twitter that I was going to stop calling The Hall Monitors a ska band and start calling them a "dork rock" band. The reasoning for this is because I feel that labeling them as a ska band might end up hurting the readership of this webcomic. Ska isn't exactly popular these days, and while I still love it, I'd also love to see this comic reach a bigger audience. If I ever get around to making real music for this fictional band I think I would still write some ska songs, with a mixture of other styles. You could think of it as a mix of The Chinkees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1js4OMaRP4U) and Weezer (come oooonnn).
That's all I got today, dork rockers! Tune in next Friday for a new page!
- Josh
