UPDATE: 7/1/12 - I took out the square word balloons. They are now the more traditional round word balloons.

Want to start a band? Your first step will be to think of a name for your band. Just think of some twist on a TV or movie reference. Or in the case of ska bands, try to cram the word "ska" into any word that has a "ca" sound in it. Once you've come up with something akin to Joseph SKAlin and the SKAmmunists, you're all set to start writing songs.

I can recall many brainstorming sessions in which everyone in the band all tried to come up with something really clever. In high school, I started a band with a few friends and we called ourselves Spork Assault.. I guess because we thought sporks were cool or funny, I don't know. After a while we changed it to The Game Show, which isn't much better.

One thing I do like about punk and ska bands is that their names, while often terrible, don't have to be serious. There are so many bands out there that take themselves way too seriously, and go with a name like Not Tonight, Josephine or some crap like that. I think I would end up hating myself if I were in a band like that. So bands that don't take themselves too seriously have always appealed to me.
